A Royal Priesthood
A Royal Priesthood ++++++++++++++++ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10 KJV Are you born again? Are you a bible believing Christian? Can you remember the day that you accepted Jesus into your life? Phew! That day brought you a major status transformation. I agree it was a spiritual transformation not seen immediately with the eyes but the bible says even the angels in heaven rejoiced over your homecoming. Our text this morning is an eloquent description of your new status as a born-again Christian. You see, prior to this event you were in darkness; you were not a part of God’s people in spite of the fact that He created you. You had not obtained mercy from our LORD Jesus Christ in order to be reconciled back to the Father. You were actually en route to a hellish destination. But the LORD was merciful. (Romans 5:8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. His death and resurrection paved the way for our status transformation described here today. The labels that are applied to us are simply beautiful. We are a chosen generation! Yes, many many are called, but very few are chosen and we are a part of this select few. We are bound together as a Holy nation and a peculiar distinct people of God. We belong to the King. We are His very own people. These tags confer an assignment on us. The day that we became “parents” yes that was a wonderful status change! But it came with an assignment; we had the responsibility to take care of a young person and guide him/her to adulthood. In much the same way, our spiritual transformation made us a Royal Priesthood. This conferred an assignment upon us. We became priests of the King! As Priests, we are leaders “authorized” to perform sacred rituals of worship before the King. Our activity is to “shew for the praises” of the King. What are you doing today to shew forth the praises of the King? Remember you are in His marvelous light of prominence! Everyone is watching!
