Humility Allows God To Exalt You! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 1 Peter 5:6 KJV A lot of "motivational talk" today centres on our "self-sufficiency". The idea that we are "enough" and we do not need God's help to solve the challenges of our lives is deceptive. At the root is pride. The Truth is that we are never "enough" and we need God every step of the way! We must humble ourselves under God's hand. Solomon's request for wisdom was an act of humility. He admitted that he needed wisdom from God to govern God's people. God was very pleased with his choice and told him that because he had asked for wisdom and not riches, honour, a long life or the death of his enemies, He God, would give him wisdom, and all these other things. Humility seeks the interest of others first. Humility allows God to exalt a man. Pride is when a man seeks to exalt himself. Ultimately, we all seek that high position. There is nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is how we choose to get there. We are deceived if we think we can get there by our own effort. Jesus gives us the ultimate example of humility. He accepted a horrific death upon the cross motivated by love. He humbled Himself. In John 13:1-17 Jesus washes the feet of His disciples demonstrating His servant-kingship. At the end of the process God has exalted Him above all. (Philippians 2:8-9) And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: God's "lifting up" has a "due time". Be patient!
