Who Is Your Shepherd? +++++++++++++++++ He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Psalm 23:3 KJV Do you feel lost in life? Are you jumping from one place to another; one activity to another in search of a more satisfying life? Are you troubled or unsettled emotionally? If you have answered YES to any of these questions, then pay attention to this morning's focus verse! Your soul is in need of a Shepherd or a guide. You need an anchor for your soul. Who is your shepherd? King Solomon, after a lifelong pursuit of many pleasures, exclaims! "Vanity of vanities" (Ecclesiastes 1:2) when he understands finally the fleeting and temporary nature of human pursuits and achievements. He discovered that the pursuit of worldly desires and material possessions is ultimately empty and meaningless. He then concludes: (Ecclesiastes 12:13) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. The man whose shepherd is the LORD is led in the "paths of righteousness". He aligns with the will and purpose of God for his life. He fears God and keeps His commandments. God anchors his soul and he is no longer a "restless wanderer" of the earth. Because the LORD is his shepherd, he lacks nothing in the midst of his lack! The LORD leads him: (Psalms 23:2) He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. His soul eats of the Word (commandments of God) and drinks of the living water, that satisfies. Jesus says of Himself: (John 10:11) I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. (John 10:9) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (John 4:14) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
