Approval of Men or God?
Approval of men or God? +++++++++++++++++++ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10 KJV This morning's word hits straight: If you should please men, then you are not a servant of Christ! Hmm! You know where my thoughts run to immediately? First to us Pastors and overseers of God's flock and then to Politicians. These are two groups totally vulnerable. We easily want to please men. However, the matter is still deeper than it appears and involves everyone and not just these two groups. Even though the simple straight conclusion, is that if you please, men, then you should not be the servant of Christ period!, this will also mean that if you please your own flesh (man), then you cannot please God (Christ) period! Paul was perhaps recalling his own "yesterdays" when he was persecuting the saints to please men! He says; If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. There is a huge conflict between Christ's values and those of the average person, reflecting the constant war between our flesh and the Spirit of God in us. We must make a clear, but wise choice to please God. James puts this same thought this way: (James 4:4) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Literally, as we work so hard on social media, trying to garner "likes" and "followers", representing popularity with men, we may unconsciously be becoming adulterers and adulteresses. Our journey with God may be lonesome. We may look like failures in the eyes of men. We may sound very unpopular with men. We may be politically incorrect. Yet, that may be the path of Christ that leads to God. Jesus Himself had this to say: (Matthew 7:13) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matthew 7:14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Increasingly, we will come under pressure from society. They will want us to bend and blend, but this will be the time to stick out and stick it out. May the Holy Spirit be our most Holy companion in that hour that will soon be unleashed upon us all. Persecution is around the corner. Let's get ready to be unpopular with men and win the heart of God.
